One of my favourite assignments I had the kids do last year in English was an essay comparing V for Vendetta to a novel of their choice dealing with similar themes. The essay was due symbolically on Novemeber 5th and I had great fun reminding them each day about the due date in rhyme :D

Yeah, definitely! It's an intensive effort and one that requires much more dedication than what, I think, we're prepared to offer. I already have trouble putting out as much material as I do for this blog...

I totally agree. Having poked my nose into many such paying schemes, I've only learnt that nothing ever comes easy. Whether it's Google's Adsense or writing articles at sites like Helium.com, it requires a *lot* of dedication, time and effort. If you jump into it without any plan, very soon you frizzle out and it's back to square one... actually, one step behind square one because failing in such a stupid manner (entirely your own fault for not planning it out) leaves ademotivating after effect.

That's probably one of those weird mental typos, Faraz bhai, but a funny one.

With proper engineering, the danger of the resonance frequency can be avoided. Also, wind speed can't become so high that it would turn the turbine into a "slice 'n dice machine" or dangerously high. They account for the max wind speed under the most extreme conditions and the rotor of the wind turbine has its own threshold. Wind energy is a good idea and all, but if we just become safer with our use of nuclear power (i.e. not using the technology for weapons and using the latest storage methods), it's a far superior sustainable power source. Wind has this reputation for being great, while nuclear has this stigma of being evil.

But you're not the only one who thinks that wind turbines are scary: http://xkcd.com/556/

<strong>'liya:</strong>
Yeah, these wind farms are pretty cool to see.

<strong>GeekiSiddiqui:</strong>
The wind passes through Turbine A and then passes through Turbine B. However, Turbine B now also has the added force being provided from Turbine A. It's like when you have multiple fans beside each other in a row - the first fan will rotate and the force that comes from that will turn the second fan (alibi much less than how fast the first fan is moving) and so on with the rest of the fans... that's why they create wind farms because they know that it takes less energy to get the other fans in the row to move and, thus, generate energy since each turbine is connected to a power generator.

I don't get it. If wind hits Turbine A and turbine A generates power from it, then some of that wind energy is gone. Its been converted to something else. How then can you be adding more power into wind hitting Turbine B?

That would mean energy is being stored (converted) + energy is being produced...

When V and I were taking the train through France we saw tons, like farms of them! It looked interesting as part of the landscape kinda. Well what do we know, we only had seen one here before (the one downtown).
